The Toddler Room provides care for up to twelve children per session from the ages of 18 months – 2 ½ years.
The staff: children ratios are as follows:
Under two’s 1:3
Over two’s 1:4
From the age of two, attending children have the option of being term-time only, providing there is space to accommodate this.
The Toddler Room supports and encourages children to become more independent as they come up from The Baby Room. Dressing, putting on wellies, and developing their own self care such as washing hands and blowing noses is actively monitored and supported.
As well as completing the “All about me” books for each child, The Toddler Room will complete a Progress Check at Two years for parents and carers to coincide with their visit to their Health Visitor.
Within the room there is a large indoor slide and nappy changing unit with steps, which support the children’s physical development. There are sensory trays filled with sand, mud or water available on a daily basis and a roleplay kitchen area so that the children can develop their imaginative play.
The open floor plan of the room allows for dancing, music and large messy activities, all of which support the needs and stages of development of this very physical age.
In between meals and rest time the children take part in a mixture of free play in the room and the garden, or more focused activities, such as cooking or painting. Given the children within the Toddler Room are all fairly active they take full advantage of the garden space and surrounding vineyard whenever they can, going on walks and visits around the village, planting and digging.
