Forest School at Fidgets

We believe that having extended outdoor learning opportunities is key to supporting the development of all areas of learning, with a specific focus on The Characteristics of Effective Learning (from the Early Years Foundation Stage, 2017). We aim to promote a greater understanding of The World and natural environment and foster the development of key skills such as resilience, confidence, curiosity and creative thinking by encouraging an early engagement with a wall-less, exciting and ever changing 'classroom'.
Our sessions:
We believe that every child should get the opportunity to take part, so we offer daily Forest School mornings on a rotational basis, which changes each term.
As of September 2021 we are now also offering the opportunity on a Monday and Tuesday (term time only) for full Forest School days between 9am - 3.30pm. For more information on this please click here.
Each session is run from one of a variety of Forest School sites we use around the Vineyard and surrounding village (some public, some private). Activities vary depending on the age group taking part. Children learn about staying safe whilst on Forest School and are actively encourage to develop the skills necessary to manage their own risks by taking part in challenging and exciting activities, such as fire making, using tools, cooking outdoors, natural crafts, woodland games, tree climbing and much more.

There's no such thing as bad weather... just bad clothes
Our Forest School sessions run come rain, shine, ice or snow. This helps support the children's immune systems, resilience, physical development (lots of movement keeps us warm in the winter), problem solving skills and general well-being. We find that with the right clothing children are able to engage in outdoor play no matter the weather. Upon joining Fidgets we have a detailed kit list which is sent out to families with advice and suggestions for clothing that will support your child to enjoy all of our activities to their fullest!
